Lets be alone together (Pete)

She opened her eyes and looked at her surroundings. "Am up." She said as she rubbed her eyes. In the back of her mind she knew she should not be here. What if she catches this place on fire like. She stopped herself. It was too painful. Rebel did not realize she was wearing the same clothes she was kidnapped in, until Pete tossed her some clothes. "Thanks. It is not the first time I have worn the same clothes for more then a day. Comes with living on the streets."



Pete asked for her clothes and it made her smile. "A little rushing? I'll bring them to you." Rebel left Pete's room, something she did not do very often. But lucky the bathroom was just next door.



She took a quick shower, and looked at the cloth Pete had given her. She knew they were his. An iron maiden shirt and black jeans. They fit alright. A little big. She left her feet bare. She then pulled her wet red hair in a pony tail.



When she got back to his room she found him sleeping. She rolled her eyes and sat her dirty clothes on the couch she had been sleeping on. The couch was just across from his bed. She sat back down on the couch and laied her head on a small pillow. Maybe she was fooling herself that this guy would give her the one thing she never had. But it was only wishful thinking. It always ended bad for her. All she wanted was to feel safe. But it never happens.

    When Pete woke up, he saw Rebel in his clothes, her hair tied up and her breathing steady. “Fell asleep again.” He chuckled to himself, getting up and going over to wake Rebel up. He put his hand on her shoulder. “Hey, wake up. Wanna get some food? It’s almost 7pm.” He knew she was still a little frazzled, but nevertheless alright. He helped her up, and walked out of the room her following behind him. They grabbed some food and went back into his room. “So, when did you start using fire?” He asked, interested in her ability.
She did save him, after all.

Rebel sat down on the gray bench/couch, putting her feet up so her chin almost touched her knees. "When I hit puberty. Fun. I was twelve years old. I had a nightmare and awoke to a nightmare. I had burned my house to the ground along with my parents." A tear fell down her cheek. Why was she so comfortable talking with him? "After that I was bounced around foster homes. I burned down two more. Go me I guess. I can't control it sometimes." She said as she looked down at her hands.

    He put a hand on hers as comfort. “Hey, I’m sorry. We don’t have to talk about it if you don’t wanna.” He scooted a little closer, moving his hand back. “Life hasn’t been so easy for you, has it? Same for me. Those assholes that kidnapped you were the guys that made me a vampire.” Shit, Pete come on, you shouldn’t tell her that. Now she’s gonna freak out. “But my friend is helping me be a human again, so now I’m only half vampire. But it has its perks.” He chuckled, looking down. “I guess somehow you have your perks too. But they haven’t come to light yet.” Pun intended, he joked in his mind.

Rebel smiled as Pete moved closer towards her. I mean who wouldn't. He was hot. She wanted to be near him. But when she heard he was a vampire she jumped up and backed away from him. She stopped when her back hit the wall covered by a curtain. She listened to what else he said about he was only half and that she would have perks. She did not think so, It was a curse.



"Do you drink blood?" She asked her voice was shaking? "I mean which half of a vampire are you?" She had this image in her head of Pete biting her neck. And it was not scary. But something else. She could feel her hands start to heat up. Oh no! She pictured an ocean to calm her. Anything. "I, I do have to say you are pretty hot for a vampire, half. But still." She regretted that as soon as it left her mouth. She was scared of him. But a part of her felt a peace with him. Ugh brain make up your mind.

    Pete stood up when she backed off. “No, I’m not gonna hurt you, I swear! Let me explain!” He took a step forward, watching her move back. “Yes, I drink animal blood. But I mostly eat normal food. Being half human helps with that. And besides, if I be more human, I become more human. I’m not gonna hurt you.” He saw her hands glowing red, and he knew he should run, and get out before something bad happens. But… he just couldn’t. You’re such an idiot, you’re gonna die!! He walked forward slowly, taking her arms and pulling Rebel into a gentle embrace. “Please, don’t be more scared. You’re too cute to be more scared. I’m sorry about your past, I’ve had a lot of troubles too. I’ve had a life of running, but I’ve stopped.” He looks at her. “You can stop too. If you stay with us.”

Rebel let Pete's embrace surround her. She still found it hard to believe what Pete was saying. Neither did her hands as they were red. It looked like she stuck both hands in boiling water. They were ready to defend her. She herd him say she was too cute to be scared. His voice sounded like he really cared. In her mind she let the world slow around her as she held onto this moment of his embrace. She kept her hands to her side hoping he would not touch them. It would be like touching a hot oven wire.  She felt comfterable with him. Something she had not felt before.  



"I don't want to run anymore. And I don't want to hurt anymore people I care about. There was a time you felt the same way am sure." She buried her head in his shoulder fighting back the tears.  "Ugh look at me. Am  to be this tough fire chick. And am melting like snow.

He chuckles. "Sometimes the fire has to dim down, to relax. Snow has to melt to be water, it has to move to a natural state. And these feelings are absolutely normal." He let go of her, putting his hands on her shoulders. "And if you want some help, we can get some training in. To give you some control. And you would help us tremendously if you stayed. Patrick might not like you at first, but he's a bit tough to get used to in general." He chuckled to himself. "The decision is yours, should you take the chance."

Pete's words of water and snow made her relax. "That was a beautiful thing to say." She smiled. Her hands died down until they were a normal flesh color. What he was offing was all she could think about. Could he be able to help her when so many had failed or she burned. She need to learn control with her powers. To not burn down a whole forest just to kill one vamp.  But she wondered how she would help them? And this guy named Patrick seemed like a person she did not want to meet.

He asked her if she should take the chance. She looked into his eyes. She was taking a lot of chances. She was not known to trust herself or anyone else.  But looking at him, she knew what she had to do.

"I would like to take that chance. I mean you did say I was cute so." She laughed.

Pete let go of Rebel and sat on his bed. "Thanks, but I'm not that good at speeches." He chuckled. "We'll make room. And whatever you're thinking about Patrick is a total lie. He a fuzzball; he can't even hurt a spider for crying out loud. He's just worried about new people and the group." He thought about her hands on her side, how warm they were. He could see from the hug that she was nervous. But he was glad she was okay now. "I can give you a phone; you can go get stuff if you have it, stay in here for a little while before we get you set up." He opened his drawer to grab an old cell phone. "Burner. Their really cheap and useful these days. We can get you an official one later; just have this for now." He turned it on, making sure that it worked and that it could call before handing the phone to her. "Finally, you're gonna need a job, but I think we'll handle that later. Any questions?" He looked up at her calmly.

"Thanks," Rebel said as she took the phone from Pete. "For everything not just the phone. You could have just dropped me off somewhere. But you offered me a place to stay. And a chance to help me with my powers. You sure this isn't some school for mutants or something." She laughed.  She sat next to him on the bed. After a moment of silence she turned her head to look at him. "So did it hurt, You know when you became a vampire? Is it like in the movies, you have to die first."

He chuckled at her joke. "Of course. And no, this isn't a school. We just want this all to be over. To be really safe at home." He scooted over for her, keeping a comfortable space between them. "Becoming a vampire? Well, I didn't die, but it definitely felt like it. There was a guy, William. He was the head of the whole clan in the Midwest, from here to L.A., and I was just with Patrick at the time. We were walking alone together, when I got kidnapped. They drove me all the way to a huge house in Michigan, where William at the time was staying." He could remember all of his words, all of his orders. Pete shivered. "..In a short summary, he was an asshole. I remember one night when his minions brought me out, he was giving me a 'special test'. He bit me, which for me was like death. But I’m a fighter. I woke up in a room, and there was this different feeling that has never happened to me before. I was a vampire.” Damn dude, you’ve never told that story with detail. Hope she doesn’t turn on you.. “You could die if you get turned, but that only means that your body isn’t strong enough.”

"That sounds nice. To be safe at home, I never had the feeling. Well not that I can remember. Fear of waking up in ash as the home you were in is now a pile of rubble.  And the ones you loved burned to a crisp. And because of me."

Her heart went out to him as she heard him recall his story. He must have been terrified. Yet Pete did not strike her as a guy who would get scared, ever. She wanted to touch his hand to offer some sort of comfort, but she was afraid her hands had not cooled yet. They were normal color but she had been fooled by that before. "Looks like we both have issues. Am sorry Pete, all that you have had to go through. Have you ever killed someone you have loved? I know that feeling all too well, losing control."    She looked down. It was hard for her talk about it. But she feel comfortable talking with him. Which was just stupid to her cause she had just meet him. And was never one to trust people so easily.
