CATHERINE SHAW
Full Name: Catherine Shaw
Alias(es): Cat
Gender: Female
Age: 32
Date of Birth: 12/18/1982
Marital Status: Single
Current Location: Recently moved to Chicago
Occupation: College Student, Casual Artist, Casual Hunter of that which goes bump in the night
Affiliations: N/A
What They Look Like:
Hair Color: Chestnut with blonde highlights
Hair Length: Above shoulder, very thick
Eye Color: Dark Brown, wears contact lenses to hide cat-like pupils when necessary
Celebrity Claim: Rachel McAdams
Powers:
The lore on were-leopards is confusing at best. Some say these creatures are capable of shapeshifting entirely into their cat counterparts while others claim to have the capacity of low level magical skills usually linked with the elements. Other sources say that they closely related to fae or lycanthropes in some way shape or form. Finding any solid evidence is extremely difficult as they are a rather uncommon species. Even the origin itself is difficult to pin down but archaeological discoveries seem to suggest a Native/South American origin or possibly European mutated strain of lycanism. What is certain, however, is how it effects the human body. Some of it's effects are very noticeable -
~ pupil shape changing to a more cat-like slit (allowing more light in and thus giving the ability to see in the dark)
~ retractable and strengthened nails (or rather claws that are proportionally as strong as a cat's claws which extend from cuticle and being surprisingly sharp despite their appearance)
~ canine teeth becoming longer and sharper (the upper jaw teeth being sharper and slightly longer than those on the lower jaw, though not as noticeable as most vampire fangs. *It should noted that they seem to extend to about 2.5 centimeters in length during times of stress or threat*)
- but others are more easily hidden. Some examples of this include:
~ increased bone and lean muscle strength (allowing them to jump much farther and run much faster, similar to the abilities of actual cats while also decreasing the possibility of a injury - though it is out of the question)
~ increased metabolic rate (which lowers the possibility of illness slightly and speeds up the rate at which one heals *To put things in prospective, where it would take about 2 to 3 months to heal a broken arm normally, it would take a were-leopard about a two-thirds the time*)
~ an increased sense of smell and hearing as well as agility
Limits: (Minimum one paragraph per power.)
Of course, no being is without it's limits. Being so connected to cats, it must be stated that both the abilities and downfalls of cats carry over.
While it is a useful adaptation to have the ability to see in the dark as a cat is able to, there are adverse effects on the eyes that can be detrimental. Because the eyes take in such amounts of light, much more than the normal human eye, seeing in daylight becomes difficult if not a slightly painful experience. The amount of light going into the eyes is simply overpowering and difficult to get used to. Proper dark sunglasses or even colored contact lenses can filter some of the light and remedy this to a degree, but it isn't all bad. Thankfully, the amount of cones and rods in the human eye offset the cat eyes, so at least there isn't threat of being colorblind in daylight, just very sensitive to bright lights... kinda like a hangover, minus the headache and alcohol poisoning...
The claws and canines can be useful in a pinch, but in an anxiety raising situation like a job interview, they aren't so useful. As the body's response to fear, the fight or flight instinct may kick in, possibly triggering the release of a were-leopard's "useful" weapons as a defense mechanism. As one might guess, this isn't socially acceptable for someone to do at a job interview unless you are trying to get a job at Knott's Scary Farm Halloween Attraction. Of course, one can file down the canines, but the best possible remedy for this is to steer clear of stressful situations and have confidence in what you are doing.
Lastly, there is the fast-moving metabolism to address. While it's nice to heal faster and get sick less often, it is difficult to maintain. A were-leopard processes food much faster than an average human, which means they need to consume a lot more protein and sugar rich food. If they aren't able to get what they need to keep their strength up, it is very easy for them to go on autopilot and for their instincts to kick in. This can mean a range of things such as mood swings, increased aggression, weakened strength and awareness, exhaustion, grogginess, and the triggering of the hunting instinct if food is unreachable after a day or two. Usually this won't happen as long as the have a substantial meal though.

(during a time when she had run away as her parents were getting a divorce, hope this is ok)
Hearing the someone at the door jolted her out of sorrowful daze and into defensive mode. Who knew what she’d find. No one was supposed to know she was there… or at least that was the idea. She didn’t exactly know how to fight, but she’d try to keep the upper hand on the situation. Opening the door only slightly and attempting to hide the grief in her voice, she began.
“Who the hell is it? If it’s child services or someone looking to collect money, you can take your notices and burn 'em for all I care.” She called out, “Any other business, you’d better tell me right now.” She immediately regretted saying it, especially that way. Something was different than anything else, not threatening or dangerous but …better, safer, harmless. Still, feelings could be deceiving so she stayed on guard.
